Vitalvet Mossel Bay opened its doors in 2016. Based in the heart of the Old Town. Vitalvet Mossel Bay has its own designated parking lot and plenty of retail space for you to find whatever you need for your pet.
Our receptionists are fully trained in order to be able to assist you and our onsite veterinary team is available 8h30 to 17h30 six days a week.

We have a fully equipped theater, kennels and laboratory support alongside our veterinary and vet nurse team to look after your pet when unwell but also for routine preventative health procedures.

GENERAL HEALTH CHECKS

We recommend that you bring your pets in for a general checkover every 12 months.
A hands on examination is so valuable for the simple reason that our pets don’t speak our language and they are so stoic - they never complain. This is probably the best way to keep your pet in tip top health.

INTENSIVE CARE

All intensive care patients are looked after at Vitalvet Animal Medical Centre in George.
We have direct links with specialist vets like Dr Christiaan Triegaardt of CSSV and the veterinary opthalmologist Dr Izak Venter, as well as medical specialists who we can confer with to optimise patient outcomes and get your pet back to you in top top health as soon as possible.

We regularly refer to specialist centres in Cape Town like Panorama Veterinary Clinic and Specialist Centre, and Vetscape in Paarl.

In line with our committment to One Health, we are determined to help those less fortunate and we work every week with local animal charities like Kerneelsie Kat ; CAT GARDEN ROUTE ; CATS INSANE and PDSA and we also run outreach programmes in more remote communities like Albertinia.

OUR TEAM

Our Vet Team includes three of our vets from Vitalvet Animal Medical Centre – Dr Johann Rauch is team leader and is ably assisted by Dr Helen Pringle and Dr Kayleigh Legge. Our super experienced veterinary nurse, Sr Ilse Wyatt-Goodall, is a long standing member of the Mossel Bay community and probably knows you already.

I qualified from Onderstepoort in 2005. I am originally from Alberton but joined the Vitalvet family at the end of 2023. I enjoy long walks on the beach with my wife and two sons. There is nothing more satisfying at work then to improve the bond between clients and their pets.

I qualified from Onderstepoort in 1996 and in all these years I have worked in many different practices and organisations. Vitalvet is the pinnacle of my long career - somewhere I am able to practice cutting edge veterinary medicine and surgery with the latest and most advanced technology. This is truly fulfilling to be able to bring my absolute best to my precious patients that I have been dedicated to for so long.

From a tiny three year old who bandaged up her fluffy toys with toilet paper and left food out on the window sills for stray cats, to a fully fledged member of the Vital Vet team, I can truly say I am living my dream. When I qualified at Onderstepoort in 2021, my prayer was that God would use me as a steward for His creations, and at Vital Vet that is certainly true. I am passionate about welfare and medicine, and love being able to chat to my clients about the special role their furchildren play in their lives!

Sr Ilse Wyatt-Goodall
– Veterinary nurse

I qualified in 1984 and my career includes time spent on biomedical research at Wits, wildlife work in Etosha and welfare work at the SPCA. I currently work at VVMB and I am responsible for all the patient nursing and I also run my own vaccination clinics. I love the interaction between humans and animals and it still excites me to this day to work in this field. 

Our Reception team are always ready with a smile to assist you with your shopping list and your pets veterinary needs.

The collaborative atmosphere at Vitalvet provides a support system that makes even the toughest days rewarding.

I am one of the newest receptionists at MB and I hail from Mpumalanga. I love the busy nature of my job. NIGHT SHIFT NURSING

We are so excited to brag about our new night nurse service. We have found ourselves admitting more and more inpatients and more complicated inpatients and we are finally able to level up and offer round the clock nursing for all of our inpatients.

This is a first for the Garden Route and is very exciting for us as we feel strongly about top notch inpatient care!

We have a nurse on site 24hours a day so you can rest assured, your pet is in good hands.

This service is only available at our Animal Medical Center based in Knysna Road, George.

Public Holidays, Sundays and afterhours calls are referred to our emergency service based at Vitalvet Animal Medical Centre in George.
If you are unable to get to George for emergency care, we recommend our colleagues at Croft Animal Hospital in Groot Brak. You can call them on 044 620 3133 or after hours directly on 082 922 7010.
